Buenos Aires 'superclasico' on for March 21

It's on, baby. The next incarnation of the Buenos Aires 'superclasico' between River Plate and Boca Juniors will be held at La Bombonera on March 21 (links to pdf document from the Asociacion del Futbol Argentino). The match is nothing short of the top sporting event to witness in person before you die, according to The Observer. While the piece does not differentiate between attending the event at the Bombonera (Boca's home ground) or the Monumental across town (River's stadium), if you're going to pick between the two, the Bombonera should probably be your choice. This despite the fact it's ranked one spot lower (ninth) as a 'soccer mecca' than the Monumental. The Bombonera is smaller, more crowded and louder. And yes, more dangerous. Which, let's face it, is part of the allure when attending soccer matches in South America (though there have not been any serious incidents in quite some time, at least not any resulting in fatalities). The ground's curious shape that gives it its name and raucous atmosphere make it the most intimidating place to play anywhere, according to some estimates. For the serious soccer fan and world traveler, attending this event is not a choice but a requirement. Which is why, this year, Soccer Source is going to make a serious attempt at making the trip. Are you with me?
